Before I go to bed
I had to share with you this wonderful shoe project I did! I stumbled onto the project here and found it wasn't really hard at all. The shoes only cost $5 from Walmart and the paint pen for $3 so it wasn't expensive either.
Sorry for the no Pick Friday.
I was consumed all day with the Royal Wedding and some projects :)
I didn't wake up at 4 am but I still managed to get sucked into it when I did wake up.
Tomorrow I'm going to wake up early so I can drop off an order from Craft'n Bettie and while I'm out I might just catch the usual vintage stores. Then work more on final projects and finally go to work. Oh what a semi-exciting day tomorrow.
Anyway hope everyone had a great Friday and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Crochet Pillow
I had mention before about making a pillow with the finds I got at the local thrift store. Well I've been eying some adorable "granny" pillows and wanted to make my own so I took that aqua blue crochet cloth and a old pillow case and hand sewed a "granny" pillow.
I simply cut the crochet fabric in half and laid it on the pillow case and made a rough cut.
I then cut those pieces in half and started sewing. I used pen to draw a straight line on top and bottom so when I went to sew it by hand it didn't look like a shark attack.
I made sure to double stuff it so it's super comfy and it looks adorable in the living room.

You win some, you lose some
So yesterday I tried my hands at the homemade hostess cakes but instead of making them chocolate I made them vanilla. Although they taste great they didn't turn out like I hoped. Regardless of how they look I thought I'd still share it with you gals.
I made the cupcakes according to the directions then took one of my tips to cut the section out of the cupcake. Then I took a butter knife to get the cake part out and took a sandwich bag (simple fill it, seal it and cut the corner) and filled them with the homemade whipping cream. The homemade icing is what went wrong for me because I added too much milk. The consistency was okay but once I put it in the pasty bag the icing started to melt and started to fall off the sides of the cupcake. I tried fixing it by smoothing it out but ended up with a mess. They taste delicious regardless but next time I think I'll try making the chocolate ones with chocolate icing like the original recipe.
I almost forgot...
To show off my beautiful handmade mug I got at the Mug-a-ton 2011! My mom and I try to go every year and we always have fun. I have heard it called the Mug-a-ton or Mugs for Mutts & Cups for Cats, but no matter what it is called the proceeds go to the Human Society to help out animals. How it works is you pay $10 to get a free mug and they sanitize it right there so you can fill it with any beverage you'd like. They also offer finger foods and great desserts and since it's in the pottery shop you get to see some amazing art as well. The last mug I chose was cute and petite but didn't hold a lot of coffee so this year I went for a tall mug and I just love the design. I broke it in this morning with a fresh cup of coffee, technically I broke it in at the Mug-a-ton but I only drank tea so it was still a coffee virgin. Well I hope everyone enjoys the rest of this fabulous Friday!
Pick Friday #10
Maybe I should just embrace starting an owl collection :)
I've been wanting oxford for so long I just need to give in and buy me a pair.
When she started making her artwork into jewelry I squealed a little lot. These are just one of the cute pair of earrings that I want.
I need this pouch to keep my purse from eating my pencils, pens and highlighters.
My grandma has one similar to this in orange that she got from her mother. I told her never to get rid of it (unless she'd like to give it to me) because they're like gold for retro seekers. I need to find some on my own so I can make casseroles every night especially if I could bake it in this cute dish :)

Sharing the food love.
I stumbled upon this lovely site, 52 Kitchen Adventures, and I just thought I'd share it with you gals. Asides from sewing I've been in this baking mood too. It started with my grandpa giving me some of the eggs his hen, Millie, had because they had way too many. I thought baking would be the best way to use them since we hardly eat any eggs. This site has some really cute cupcake ideas (i.e the Hostess Cupcakes) along with slow cooker recipes like Chickpea Curry. Check it out and get your cook on!

Excellent finds from last weekend!
I've been so busy with work and studying for midterm that I forgot to show you the awesome finds I got when I went to the local thrift store!
I found the olive pillow cases for only fifty cents (for both) and I plan on making throw pillows soon. I found this amazing aqua blue crochet cloth, it's an odd size (two big for a dolly but not the right size for a table) I'm not sure what I'll do with it but it was too cute to pass up. Finally I got the plate for again fifty cents! I still haven't found a retro paint by numbers photo or mid-century modern credenza but I'm still looking.

Vintage Finds
Here are some of my vintage finds that I've collected through out the years. I just thought I'd share with you these unique and amazing pieces.
This piece I found at the local Goodwill for $1 or so. It originally had a red background, brown/gold edges and the girl was creme colored but after bringing it home from college it broke and I had to fix it. The glue showed so I sprayed it just one color. I'm thinking about spraying it again but I'm not sure what color.
I started a hope chest (a box with pieces for my future dorm/apartment) when I was a teenager. My cousin and I found these in a box at the Goodwill for $10. It was full of Cornelle dinnerware and came with tons of plates (6" & 8") a tea set with saucers. It had a sugar container, gravy dish and other odd pieces but there were too many missing be a complete set. We're using them now as our dinnerware
This was a steal at a local thrift store for only $7 and in good condition. It needs new fabric and more padding in the back. I'm not sure what color fabric to cover it in so I haven't done anything with it yet.
This little kitten was in my childhood home for as long as I can remember. There were actually a few of them but they were either broken or someone else took them. I think it's so cute and it's in perfect condition.
I bought this brass camel at the town's Apple Festival for seventy-five cents. I was a teenager when I bought it and don't know why I did. Regardless it has been part of my knic-knac collection ever since.
I bought the brownie hawkeye camera at the Apple Festival the same time as the camel for $15. It came in it's original box and looks to be in good condition, but I'm not sure if it works or not. The owl(s) came from this estate style vintage store for $2 or less; the store is no longer there but when it was there my mom and I would check it out every weekend.

I have this urge to sew.
It's been driving me nuts but I don't have a functioning sewing machine and I'm too ocd to do big projects by hand. I really need to look into finding the missing part maybe order a new part OR just buy a small sewing machine to satisfy my fancy. I really want to check out this local thrift store and pick up some vintage pillow case and make them into throw pillows for the couch or something. I could probably do that by hand and not spend hours redoing it, plus I could send it in for that project restyle. So far I've done two restyles and I want to do more and probably would have if I had more time. I hate that I only have the Pick Fridays every week and wish I could do more for the blog but school and work are important. Oh how I can't wait for summer...I need to get some sun on my ghostly legs as my boyfriend called them (seriously they are very very pale compared to my arms and everything). Anyway hope to post more soon and see you Friday!

Pick Friday
I already have the sofa in korndal green, which is a great color, but I like neutral basics with bright kitschy colors.
I loved globes and maps as a kid but when I got older my style changed, but now I've gravitated back towards anything with a map :)
I don't know if I'd pay this much (because I am on a budget) I'd love to find one to put in the "entry" area.
Even though I wanted the lovely rug from a few Pick Friday's ago, I'll be the good girlfriend and pick one le boyfriend really likes.
What color?
This is part of the collage wall now but this bright white looks weird among the antique white frames. I was wondering what color I should spray it. Now I'm not going to mess it up by spraying it because I already had to spray it white when fixed it. Right now my couch is that green in the background but we were planing on getting a this color when we save up for it. So colorful colors aren't a problem, it's just which one?

The Run Around
I'm going through the collage and putting different pieces and moving the frames around to make it bigger. So far I added the 'A' and the silhouette frame to the wall. I have another iron letter and I'm on the look out for more images to put up there.
