In the Kitchen: Easy Poached Egg

When I was in labs at school I had a class that for the first few days all we did was cook breakfast foods and poached eggs were on the list. They're rather easy once you get the hang of it but it's not a quick process. So I found this amazing recipe at The Kitchn on how to make one in the microwave! Perfect for in the morning or when you only have a microwave to cook with (i.e college dorms.)
What You'll Need:
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/3 Cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp vinegar (helps egg to coalesce better)
  • Microwavable cup (I used an extra large soup style mug)
  • Slotted Spoon
  1. Crack Egg into cup and pour water/vinegar mixture over top
  2. Set microwave power at 80% and cook for 60 seconds*
  3. Since microwaves are different keep cooking at 80% in intervals of 10-20 seconds
  4. Once finished take remove the egg with the slotted spoon; the white will be a little wiggly but that's okay since the yoke will cook faster than the whites.
  5. Now pair it on top of lightly buttered toast with some fresh fruit (or in my case frozen yogurt covered fruit since le boyfriend ate the rest of the fresh) and enjoy!
*I like my egg a little runny so I did it for the 60 seconds at 80% with additional 10 seconds at 70% power. It cooks the yoke a little but there is still some runny goodness. For a more solid yoke try at full power at 60 seconds.

Fresh New Look

I can't get over how many times I've changed the living room around since we moved in two years ago. Though I feel I'm getting closer to the style I want in the living room but it isn't quite finished. I rearranged it not so long ago and have finished hanging up most of my vintage wall decor (see above photo) now I'm looking to change out the couch.
(when it was all new)

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the green but now I'm feeling something more neutral with all the mix match of vintage items. Since I got the couch at Ikea I can simple get a new cover but I'm not sure what color to get here are some neutral choices:
Isunda Gray
Lindo Beige

Korndal Brown

I'm really leaning towards the brown but wish it looked more like this brown couch. I guess I'll just have to make a trip and see for myself before I decide on which cover. Asides from the fabric change on the couch I found this affordable d.i.y leg change out to make the couch look more mid century modern at Our Mid Century blog. Ugh...I just want to get the living room close to finished this Summer! Anyone have room make overs in mind for their own place?

Obsession Wednesday

I love a huge mirror in the living room and love vintage mirrors even more! I remember seeing an amazing mirror at this antique show I went to a few months ago and was disappointed when I didn't stop to see how much they wanted for it. So this week I'm drooling over some vintage mirrors and hopefully will get one if I go to the antique show again.

For Your Late Night Enjoyment

I keep seeing these adorable commercials encouraging others to adapt a shelter pet and this one has to be the funniest of them all! I wish we could have a cat or dog at the apartment I'd go adopt all the pets.

It's The Simple Things

I wasn't born when the original movies came out but when the trilogy vhs box set was re-released back in 1997 my Poppy got me hooked on Star Wars. I remember rooting for the ewoks, hiding my face when Luke got his hand cut off and being deathly afraid of the wampa creature in the cave (basically The Empire Strikes Back scared me.) I had such a great time watching the movies with the family and wishing for Jedi powers.
So of course I'd be a little bit excited when I finally bought a reproduction poster of the iconic movie on ebay. I guess I'm just a big kid (I still catch myself waving my hand in front of the automatic doors at the right time before walking in) but whatever I'm fine with that :) Now I just need to find a raglan shirt and I'll be complete!

Obsession Wednesday

I've always been a fan of cardigans and one style that I've been digging is the open/kimono cardigans. Though I can't decide if I should go with a solid color or pattern so here are some of my favorites from both!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

I still need to get all the pictures together from graduation and will make one mega post with it all. Until then I wanted to share with you all my little garden that Dustin and I have been working on.

One thing this summer that we want to do is fix up our back patio area so we can actually enjoy the summer. We have a grill already and Dustin can get pallets for $1 at his work so we're going to make furniture and we just need a few more little touches to make it perfect. I'm also going to start looking for an affordable fire pit so we can go out during the Fall too.

Top Left to Right: A blossom on one of our strawberry plants, a hanging plant our neighbor gave us
Bottom Left to Right: One of the hydrangea's we salvaged from the sale rack, the golden eunoymus plants we got two years ago.

Hello Again,

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but with graduation being tomorrow I can't wait to get back to blogging. I really needed to take the time off to focus on my grades and all the stuff you do before graduation. I'm so excited about Saturday!  It's such a big accomplishment and I've learned so much from this school I literally have notebooks filled with tools to help me when my establishment opens one of these days.

Anyway I have some big plans for the summer and a few involve this here blog. I want to keep with a few regular post like the Pick Friday and Obsession Wednesday but I want to start doing more cooking post and more thrifitng trips. I want to do a lot more d.i.y and decorating projects as well. I would love to have some sponsor involvement like giveaways or post for those sponsors interested and give you all some of the progress on the new Craft'n Bettie plans. Just so much I want to do this summer I need to get started on it asap :)

Before I sign off I want to give out a big thank you to all my followers that have stuck with me during my break and want to thank all the new comers that started following regardless of my lack of posting. I really appreciate it very much :)

Until next time...
